HOTEL CENTRAL is in Sento Sé, in the interior of Bahia, on the shore of the Sobradinho reservoir, one of the largest artificial lakes in the world by surface area, created by damming the São Francisco river. The town was partly rebuilt after the original village was flooded when the reservoir was formed in the 1970s.

The region relies on lake fishing and cattle ranching, and forms part of the so-called Sobradinho sea, a distinctive landscape in the Bahian sertão, where the vast body of water contrasts with the dry caatinga vegetation around it.
