Hotel trevo is in Machadinho D'Oeste, in the state of Rondônia, in Brazil's Amazon region. The municipality originated from one of the first major planned agroforestry settlement projects in the Amazon, in the 1980s, and also went through a period of intense gold prospecting.

The region combines Amazon rainforest with areas of agricultural settlement, and the municipality now takes part in forest conservation and sustainable management projects, within the broader context of development in the Brazilian western Amazon.
