hotel Fazenda is in Contendas do Sincorá, a municipality in the interior of Bahia that takes its name from the Serra do Sincorá, the mountain range crossing the Chapada Diamantina region. The area is historically associated with 19th-century diamond mining, which drew prospectors to this part of the Bahian sertão.

The Chapada Diamantina is today known chiefly for its ecotourism potential, with rock formations, waterfalls and caves, though Contendas do Sincorá, on the fringe of the chapada, retains a more rural and less touristy character.
