Fazenda Amparo is in Teresina, the capital of the state of Piauí, in Brazil's Northeast region. Teresina is the only northeastern state capital not located on the coast, sitting inland at the confluence of the Parnaíba and Poti rivers.
The city is known for recording some of the highest temperatures among Brazilian state capitals, and its urban plan, laid out in the 19th century, is considered one of the country's first examples of a planned city.
